Our Story
Compassion in the heart of a 16-year-old sophomore in high school drove her to begin a worthy move; an organization that has benefited thousands of people, young and old in the Education and Health sector in 2 countries.
Omolola Adegoke, a first-generation Nigerian-American is the President and Founder of The Hope For Us Charity. A non-profit organization based in Houston, Texas in the United States of America but whose operations and interventions are mainly felt in Nigeria, the most populous West African country, and Puerto Rico. The organization is committed to the sole purpose of helping children and the elderly with a program called HEED. HEED simply stands for Healthcare and Education.
The organization was started by Omolola back in 2011 while still in High School, and it was inspired by a touching experience she had after talking to her cousins from Nigeria, she realized how disadvantaged the citizens of her home country Nigeria were and how privileged countries like the United States are and how their citizens take many things for granted.
She felt she was obligated to “her people” back home, and all over Africa who do not have the same opportunities that she enjoyed. So she decided to make a change and took the initiative by starting her charity to see that every child gets access to quality education and every senior citizen also gets access to basic healthcare.
We strongly believe that hope is a powerful thing. It inspires us to do the impossible and helps us carry on during difficult times which is why she decided that the name of the charity needed to show people that there was still hope in the world. And she chose “Hope For Us” simply saying that there is still hope for us in the world.
During one of our Health Outreaches held on the 14th December 2019 at Bizara Community, Zaria, Kaduna state by our Northwest Region, a testifier said this: “Thank you to HFU Charity for bringing free healthcare to doorsteps, the health education lectures received are beneficial to understanding preventive healthcare method.”
At another of such outreaches by the Northcentral Region Sustainability Outreach held at Daudu Camp 2, Guma Local Government Area, Benue state on 27th April 2019. The target was 300 people but 544 people were reached which is an 81.3% increase of the set target. One of the attendees said, “Thanks to the organizer of this event for bringing this skill acquisition program to us, they have equipped us with a skill to leverage on after leaving this Internal Displaced People (IDP) camp.”
As privileged Africans in the diaspora, we really believe we are in a position to try and improve the African situation and community in every way we can. Not only as Africans but also as humans, we need to respond and try to make the world a better and equal place to live.
This is why we raise funds through our e-commerce website where we sell HFU Afrocentric Tees and other merchandise and the entire proceeds are directed to the cause of the organization.
