PROFESSIONAL MALPRACTICE AMONG MEDICAL PERSONNELS

Medical malpractice occurs when a hospital or other health care professional, through a negligent act or omission, causes an injury to a patient. The negligence might be the result of errors in diagnosis, treatment, and aftercare or health management.

On the 20th of December 2020 I “Amber Amos Luper” lost my son as a result of the carefree and unprofessional attitude of medical personnel to their patients. It was a painful experience; but I learnt a lot from it.

On the 16th of December 2020 my wife delivered a baby boy. Both were very healthy. However, the nurses who attended to her fail to deliver the baby properly. This resulted in breathing difficulties after three days of delivery. This was discovered in the night around 11pm, early next morning we rushed him to the same hospital he was given birth to. To my greatest surprise we were referred to another hospital as a result of limited bed space. By 8:00am of that same day 20th December 2020 we lost him, as doctors of the other hospital (who reported late to work) tried their best to resuscitate him but it was late. NOTE: These were two government hospitals (Federal and State)

Within this same period, my fellow church member had an operation in the same hospital by one of their best doctors, who carelessly forgot some tools used during operation inside the patients stomach and stitched him back. This man was dying gradually, it took Gods grace for him to survive this major error from a medical professional.

HFU stands tall to lend her voice to the voiceless patients out there in many hospitals. As an organisation we call for regular monitoring and evaluation of these medical personnel. Also, for professional and ethical trainings be given to them on a regular basis.

Thank you.
